Which designer never fails to impress you?

Ralph Lauren used to — he changed the world. But now, I think I have to take it to the next level.

Please describe your style in three words.

Post-modern traditional.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Bad shoes.

Do you believe in role models?

Not a carbon-copy role model, but yes, taking the good aspects of different role models and making them your own.

What are your favourite fabrics?

A nice crispy, dry piece of khaki twill and a beefy 2-ply Oxford cloth.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

A brown belt with black shoes and vice versa.

Which city has the best-dressed men?

New York, of course. New York has the best of everything.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Both.

What are the rules, if any, in the way you dress?

The only rules are never, ever will I wear flip-flops or Birkenstocks.

One garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

White Hanes undershirts.

A man should always look like...

A man.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

Go through the pile of shit on my bedroom floor.

Your biggest regret is...

I have none. Live and learn.

The three essential things a man should know about style are...

I have no idea. Either you got it or you don't.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

Nope.

The most stylish person you have ever seen...

Jeepers, I don't know.

What is the first thing you notice on a man?

Horrible to say, but I judge people by the shoes they are wearing.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

There ain't one.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

Nobody. I am a self-absorbed asshole.

The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is...

The one that kills it all.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

Two white shirts that have the footprints of my kids, Daisy and Ryder, on them from when they were born.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Comfort is essential to style.

Who taught you what you know about style?

Everybody I have ever laid eyes on. Some for what to do, some for what not to do.

Who would you like to see next in œMy style?

Anybody other than myself.

The best word of advice you have ever heard?

Shut up.
