What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Overthinking an outfit, it always shows.

Please describe your style in three words.

Classic, clean, and raw.

Do you believe in role models?

Role models can be fundamental for many people growing up. Personally, I don't have any yet…

What are your favourite fabrics?

Wool, silk, and modal.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

Dressing like you are a walking advertisement for big brands. It's way too flashy.

Which city has the best-dressed men?

For the classically dressed men, London.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

I consider myself as a conservative dresser, some may say different.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

The one rule I live by is ‘black socks to dark bottoms’ always.

Celebrities and style...

Should not always be so admired; try to find the stylist who did all the work behind that look.

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

A tailored wool coat.

A man should always look like…

He is relaxed and confident in what he is wearing. No matter what that might be.

Who taught you what you know about style?

I was always extremely selective with what I wore from a young age. I took inspiration from so many different sources and created my own individual style.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

It always starts with the shoes and then, depending on the season, I build the look around that.

What is your biggest regret?

Not having kept all the garments that I have owned over the years. It would have been amazing to be able to recycle them every few years, but unfortunately my closet is almost ready to explode.

The three essential things a man should know about style are…

Know the history of what you're wearing. Never combine sneakers with a suit. Go with your gut feeling when getting dressed.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

I always do my best shopping the day after a good night out.

We will never see you wearing...

There's not much I wouldn't wear, as long as I feel comfortable. Although I do tend to dress in darker colours.

The most stylish person you have ever seen...

Yves Saint Laurent. He 'invented' the one button suit jacket which started my fetish for blazer jackets.

What is the first thing you notice on a man?

His shoes; they have to suit his outfit as well as his character.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

A fashion editorial with Aiden Shaw.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

Other than the brands that I work with everyday, that of course have my full attention, I'm following Nude:mm and Cedric Jacquemyn.

The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is…

I have to say it again, it's his shoes.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

My blazers are very dear to me, and I would love to wear them every day.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Not always. There are great designers who make clothes that are functional, stylish and comfortable. If you know how to dress, anything can be stylish.

Which designer never fails to impress you?

Yohji Yamamoto. It's great to see how his collections reflect his own style and how he maintains a keen eye on materials.

Who would you like to recommend for My Style?

Christophe Urbain, owner of Rewind in Belgium.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

“It's better to stay too long than to leave too soon”.
