The three essential things a woman should know about style are…

Black is classic, powerful and clean. Don't just follow trends, break the rules—but keep it simple. There's nothing like having great hair to complete a look.

Please describe your style in three words.

Classic, edgy, and relaxed. These three can be gracefully integrated.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Too much colour or print becomes overwhelming to one’s simple beauty.

Do you believe in role models?

Yes, one should always lead by example and like attracts like.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Leather, cotton, and denim.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

Piling on too many trends can go awry. My philosophy is "keep it simple". Less is more!

Which city has the best-dressed women?

My father was born in London. I was born in New York, but I live in Los Angeles...so choose!

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Neither. However, if I had to pick one it would be bold.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

My rules are to always ask where, why, and how do you want to be perceived.

Celebrities and style...

Go hand in hand. By being in the public eye you have a responsibility to the beauty and fashion industry and its icons. But, I love to see a sense of individuality with celebrities and their style.

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Undoubtedly, shoes.

A woman should always look like…

A classic beauty. The true version of herself: courageous, loving, truthful, and raw.

Who taught you what you know about style?

My parents. ‘If you don’t look good we don’t look good’.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

It depends on the day. What is on my agenda? What is the weather like? Also, on my mood! For example, gym equals wearing gym clothes and work means wearing anything from classic jeans and a T-shirt to a dress and heels.

What is your biggest regret?

I try not to have regrets. Fashion is fun and if you err on the side of classic items, you generally can't miss. Also, I always put time and thought behind the look!

Do you have any shopping rituals?

Yes. Overall, spend your money on classic, forever pieces. Each season save for that exceptional pair of shoes or bag. Add in affordable trend pieces (my go-to stores are Topshop and Zara). And last but not least, edit. Clean out your closet each season and donate items you no longer need or wear.

We will never see you wearing...

A short, tight, colourful patterned dress!

Which new designers do you follow and why?

love Chloé, Cushnie Et Ochs, Anine Bing, Zac Posen, Hedi Slimane at Saint Laurent, and Tom Ford is the ultimate.

Who is the most stylish person you have ever seen?

Angelina Jolie Pitt, she is Hollywood glamour personified.

What is the first thing you notice on a woman?

They way she carries herself. Her posture, energy, radiance.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

My dad's favourite grey cashmere scarf. My Cartier Love bracelets, as they signify all the love in my life. My leather and my jean jacket, I wear them all the time and they are both getting better with age. Of course, all my shoes and bags.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

Fictional, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. In real life, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was always timeless and flawless.

Which designer never fails to impress you?

Tom Ford, Chloé, Saint Laurent.

One article of clothing that a woman needs to pay close attention to is…

Overall, the fit of her clothes. The right fit makes all the difference and the wrong fit...well, it can be a disaster. And shoes!

Is comfort an enemy of style?

No, it's a lover. You can be comfortable and chic at same time. Maybe not always with shoes.

Who would you like to recommend for My Style?

Los Angeles-based fashion designer Anine Bing. She is effortlessly chic.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

It’s not what you wear but how you wear it! Confidence and grace make any outfit shine brighter.
