The three essential things a man should know about style are...

Style should let your personality shine. Be bold, individual, and experiment with elegance. Grey is, in fact, a colour.

Please describe your style in three words.

Moody, sharp, elegant.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Getting dressed in the dark (hehe) and not knowing what works for your body.

Do you believe in role models?

Yes, everyone needs someone to aspire to, it is always good to have aspirations and dreams.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Wool mohair for cool sharpness and mink cashmere for warm cocooning.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

A total brown look is a bit difficult on the eye for me personally.

Which city has the best-dressed men?

Best-dressed men are universal.

Celebrities and style...

Are very often Hit or a drastic Miss situation.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

I would love to be conservatively bold, but in reality I'm boldly conservative.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

Helmut Berger in Visconti’s Ludwig.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

Always make an effort to look good. I'm a firm believer in the 'look good feel good' factor. Also refinement is all in the details.

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Handmade shoes and weekend bags, I'm almost obsessed.

A man should always look like...

He's naturally elegant, never tried too hard.

Who taught you what you know about style?

In a subliminal way, maybe my father.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

Depends mostly on my mood waking up, and sometimes on my agenda.

What is your biggest regret?

I try to have no regrets, life's too short.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

Never reflect on something and think 'I'll come back.’ If you like it, get it. If you really like it, buy it in all the colours.

We will never see you wearing...

A linen suit.

What is the first thing you notice on a man?

His shoes.

The most stylish person you have ever seen...

Halston and Lee Radziwill.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

Although not new, I love the whole aesthetic of Junya Watanabe. I also really like the new awakening of Valentino's menswear by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli. It's something alive and different.

The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is...

Every article should be important, right down to the underwear as it's all in subtlety.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

My huge archive knitwear collection.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

No, but never choose comfort over a sophisticated elegance.

Which fashion house never fails to impress you?

Prada and Bottega Veneta.

Who would you like to recommend for €œMy Style?

Alexander Gilkes.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

Be good to the people on your way up as you will meet them on your way down.
