What are the rules in which you dress?

I don't have rules, but I'm a bit of a creature of habit. I like to buy loads of staples like cashmere jumpers, polo necks, silk blouses, trench coats, and so on. They are things that always look good when you throw them on.

Please describe your style in three words.

Beatnik, classic, and French.

Do you believe in role models?

Yes. I learn so much from other people around me, my friends and family, and fellow musicians.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Cashmere, suede, and silk.

Which city has the best-dressed women?

Paris and London.

Would you say that you're conservative or bold?

Conservative in my every day clothes, but bold on stage.

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Polo neck jumpers.

A woman should always look like...

She’s being herself.

Who taught you what you know about style?

My mother.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

If I really like something, I often buy two or more of them, so if I lose one on tour, then I have a backup. It's also handy, as you don't have to go shopping as often.

We will never see you wearing...

Pool sliders.

Which new designers do you admire and why?

I really love what Nicolas Ghesquière is doing at Louis Vuitton at the moment. Also my friend LeRoss just made me a beautiful bespoke skirt.

Who is the most stylish person you have ever seen?

Charlotte Rampling and Valentine Fillol Cordier.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

A mirrored/suede Miu Miu dress which I was given when I deejayed for the brand. Some Comme des Garçons Chelsea boots which I could wear forever. A dress by my good friend Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. I was also just given a beautiful suede jacket from Tara Jarmon in Paris.

One image that defined your approach to style...

The Helmut Newton portraits of girls in YSL smoking jackets.

Which fashion house never fails to impress you?

Miu Miu.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Definitely, but always go for comfort first—it can ruin your day otherwise!

Who would you like to recommend for My Style?

Josephine de la Baume.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

At the moment I find this quote really helpful if I'm stuck on something... "Your mind will answer most questions if you learn to relax and wait for the answer." — William Burroughs
