Which new designers do you follow and why?

I love what AMI is doing right now. It’s so simple and classic. I am also a huge fan of Montreal’s Naked & Famous denim. Best jeans in the world.

Please describe your style in three words.

Classic meets quirky.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Clothes that don’t fit properly.

Do you believe in role models?

I absolutely do.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Tweed, denim, waxed canvas.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

Misuse of the fedora.

Which city has the best-dressed men?

I was pretty impressed by the standard of men’s style in Reykjavik.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Bold.

What are the rules, if any, in the way you dress?

I enjoy heritage and functionality in my clothes.

Celebrities and style...

Just because someone is famous or successful, doesn’t mean they have good taste.

One garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

My Barbour Bedale jacket.

A man should always look like...

He’s comfortable in his skin.

Who taught you what you know about style?

My dad. My friend Emily. Movies.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

I just put on whatever I feel like. Or dress for the occasion if I have a big meeting or event to attend.

What is your biggest regret?

Fashion-wise? There was this beautiful sweater I didn’t buy in Chicago. I still think about it sometimes.

The three essential things a man should know about style are...

Clothes should hug the body, not drape around it. Shoes are the most important part of any outfit. Colour is your friend.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

Not really.

We will never see you wearing...

Flip flops.

The most stylish person you have ever seen...

That’s a tough one… so many men do style differently and well.

What is the first thing you notice on a man?

His hair.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

I can’t say there was one in particular… but I’ve always loved the look of the movie Badlands.

The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is...

There isn’t just one! Shoes are important, but if you’re wearing a baggy blazer they really don’t matter much.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

My bespoke suit.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Sometimes, but men have it pretty easy in that regard.

Which designer never fails to impress you?

Nigel Cabourn.

Who would you like to see next in €œMy Style€?

The boys from Naked & Famous!

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

Anything is possible.
